On October 5, 2026, Midwest Custom Engineering bolted a retrofit system directly into an existing Bliss hammer mill at a customer site in Texas.

No new mill. No new footprint. The retrofit went into the housing that was already there.

What Was Installed

The MCE retrofit re-profiles the grinding chamber inside an existing Bliss housing. With the new chamber profile, the rotor works against more of the screen on every revolution, so more material is sized per pass.

That's the core idea behind the retrofit: same mill, same footprint, more of the screen doing the work. We explain the design in Bliss Hammer Mill Retrofit: Same Housing, More of the Screen Doing the Work.

Why Bolt-In Matters

For a plant, replacing a hammer mill means more than the price of the machine. It can mean new foundations, new transitions, rerouted conveying and a longer outage. A bolt-in retrofit avoids that. It installs directly into the existing Bliss hammer mill, so the plant keeps its layout and works within a planned shutdown.

What the Retrofit Is Built to Deliver

  • More screen in use. More of the installed screen area goes to work instead of being under-used.

  • A better grind. More screen contact per revolution gives a finer, more consistent product.

  • More capacity. More working screen area means more material through the same mill.

Results depend on the mill, the material and the operating conditions.

Is Your Bliss Mill a Candidate?

If your mill's housing, drive and frame are sound but the job has outgrown how it's configured, a retrofit is worth evaluating. Start with the questions to ask before retrofitting a Bliss hammer mill, or read Retrofit or Replace? to see how the options compare.
