About the Role
Midwest Custom Engineering is looking for a hungry, technically sharp Sales Engineer with direct experience in selling hammer mills and dryers, ready to help manufacturing companies turn processing challenges into profit. We specialize in American-built hammer mills, dryers, conveyors, and full process systems designed for food, feed, pet food, biomass, and recycling industries.

If you're the type who can walk into a plant, ask the right questions, and help the customer visualize a better way of doing things—especially with hammermill and dryer solutions—we want you.
This role blends high-commission sales, engineering problem-solving, and relationship building. You'll work directly with decision-makers—plant managers, project engineers, owners—and help them win by making their operations more efficient, productive, and profitable through our hammer mills and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Prospect and qualify new leads across food, feed, and biomass industries
• Conduct discovery calls, site visits, and virtual walkthroughs
• Create and present technical proposals with support from engineering
• Close deals on custom systems, parts, and aftermarket service
• Maintain pipeline in CRM and hit or exceed monthly and quarterly targets
• Represent MCE at trade shows and client meetings
• Help shape marketing messages and customer education strategies
Key Skills & Experience
• Direct experience in selling hammer mills, preferably recent or current, with one of our direct competitors (e.g., Buskirk Engineering, Andritz Feed & Biofuel, RICHI Machinery, CPM, Bliss)
• 2–5+ years in B2B industrial or equipment sales
• Comfortable selling technical solutions with variable pricing
• Strong mechanical intuition (you don’t need to be an engineer, but it helps)
• Familiar with drying systems, air systems, or processing lines a plus
• Self-starter, excellent communicator, and team player
• Thrives in a flexible, freedom-based work environment
• Willing to travel (20–30%)

Compensation Package
• Base Salary: $45,000 – $80,000 (based on experience)
• Commission: 2–5% of gross sales, uncapped
• Total Comp Potential: $150,000+ annually
• Bonuses: Performance bonuses for high-margin deals, new accounts, and quarterly milestones
Benefits
• Flexible schedule & remote work options
• Paid travel and trade show expenses
• Professional development budget
• High growth potential – build your own territory and team
Ideal Candidate Snapshot
You’re a confident closer with direct hammer mill and/or dryer sales experience, a knack for solving technical problems, and a passion for helping manufacturers grow. You want to sell something real— American-built machines that make a difference—and be rewarded well for it. You're tired of micromanagement and politics. You want freedom, ownership, and a chance to build something bigger than yourself.
